Field Assessment
Originally designed to reinforce structural elements. They've armored themselves with layers of hardened material scavenged from their environment — dense, dark masses bristling with jagged structural projections. They attack by launching fragments of their hardened outer shell. Denser and more directly dangerous than their corrosive counterparts. Range from Node (small) through Array (medium) to Cluster (large).
Like corrosive variants, shard clusters fragment under stress rather than dying. Each fragment retains full functionality and begins immediately building new armor from available material. Grinding metallic sound is the primary diagnostic indicator.
Diagnostic Signs
Grinding metallic sound. Surface projections catching ambient light. Reinforced surfaces in vicinity — walls and floors showing unnatural structural additions. Avoid areas where both corrosive and shard clusters converge.
